Why can't all movies be this good.  This movie is so good that it hurts.  "Far From Heaven" is about a family living in Hartford, Conneticut during the 1950's who are known for being Mr. and Mrs. Magnatech, the IT couple.  The film's lead is played by Julianne Moore who has to come to terms with her husband's (Dennis Quaid) homosexual "problems" and her falling in love with the "colored" gardener (Dennis Haysbert).  If Julianne doesn't win the Oscar something is seriously wrong with the Academy.  This film is simply briiliant, in every sense of the word, the writing and directing by Todd Haynes, the acting, the cinematography, the score, the set design.  The film is done in such a way that it feels like a movie made in the 50's but discusses much more contemporary topics.  Dennis Quaid is also very strong in how he deals with his attraction to men and his disgust he feels when he thinks about it.  As the gardener and Julianne talk more and more, the community becomes a-buzz with talk on how could a respectable woman go near a negro.  We really feel for all these characters, this movie is the best film I've seen since "Minority Report" and if you are one of the two people who actually read this, you should run out and see this at the first chance you get.
