George Clooney: Kelvin Natascha McElhone: Rheya Viola Davis: Gordon Jeremy Davies: Snow Ulrich Tukur: Gibarian
Written and directed by Steven Soderbergh
I am just going to say that you will probably really not like this movie but I found it to be one of the most cerebral, beautiful, moving films I have ever seen. I still can't stop thinking about it and I saw it four days ago, that is a sign of a great movie. The only flaw I can say is that the film is very slow, it is about 90 minutes long but feels like a little over two and one half hours long. I wish I had seen this movie with someone because I feel like I need to talk to someone about it. Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Ocean's 11) directs, writes, edits, and photographs this movie beautifully. The story follows Kris Kelvin (George Clooney) on a rescue mission to a space station orbiting the planet Solaris where people have disappeared and strange things are happening. After his first night there, he awakens with his dead wife (Natasha McElhone) laying alive next to him. I will not say anymore because it will give away to much of the story. There is one thing I noticed and that there is rarely a scene when there is dialogue and music playing at the same time. You will probably loathe this movie but I truly loved it.
P.S. The title is pronounced Sole-R-iss not Sole-air-iss.
